Artist Statement
As a Limerick-based artist, educator, and researcher, my work is deeply rooted in the exploration of the intricate and evolving relationship between humanity and the land. Drawing inspiration from my hometown of Castleconnell, and the surrounding area, my work aims to delve into the complexities of human impact on the natural world and examine the delicate balance between human progress and environmental sustainability.

I have a significant interest in local history and the transformative effects of human intervention, in particular the ways in which man-made infrastructure, cultural shifts, and changes in agricultural practices and have altered the landscape and led to the degradation of native wildlife and ecosystems. Driven by a desire to unpack the nuances between industrialisation and ecological health, I question whether true progress can be achieved without irrevocably damaging the very land we aim to protect. By investigating my own locality and the ecosystems that surround the River Shannon, I witness the stark contrasts between past and present, observing how these changes in urbanisation and industrialisation have left an indelible mark on both the landscape and the cultural fabric, particularly within the fishing industry.

As an interdisciplinary artist, I have explored many mediums when creating work, while painting remains my primary medium, I have also explored printmaking, mixed media, photography and film. Working across different forms has allowed me to explore different facets of my central inquiry – the evolving relationship between humanity and the environment.
